Cerro Studio hospitality & commercial design — Central Coast
Hospitality & Commercial · Beyond residential

The same hand, behind the threshold.

Hotels, restaurants, tasting rooms, spas, private clubs, and retail — designed by a studio that treats each as a house we’d want to live in.

How we approach it
Residential-grade detail,
at commercial scale.

A guestroom should feel like a house we’d design. A restaurant should hold a conversation. A tasting room should let the wine do the talking.

Our hospitality and commercial work is an extension of the residential practice — not a separate discipline. The lime plaster, the tile, the linen, the quiet brass — all of it scales. What changes is the engineering behind it: durability specifications, operational flow, acoustic performance, permit coordination, and an FF&E program managed by the same Summerland receiver that handles our estates.

We take a limited number of commercial commissions per year — only those where the operator wants a genuinely residential sensibility, and where we can work as a design director from brand brief through opening-day styling. We do not do chain rollouts and we do not do offices measured in thousands of cubicles.

Sectors

Six ways we work beyond the home.

Boutique Hotel & Inn — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
01 · Sector

Boutique Hotel & Inn

Ten- to forty-key independent properties where the rooms need to feel like a home we'd design — and the back-of-house needs to operate like a Marriott. We lead interior design from schematic through opening day, including guestroom prototyping, amenity programs, and pre-opening styling.

Restaurant & Private Dining — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
02 · Sector

Restaurant & Private Dining

From a twelve-seat chef's counter to a two-hundred-cover dining room. We design around the menu — service flow, guest choreography, acoustic envelope, and the table as a stage. Millwork, lighting, banquettes, and tabletop specified with an operator's eye.

Dining rooms · private dining · bars & lounges · tabletop programs
Winery & Tasting Room — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
03 · Sector

Winery & Tasting Room

Our most-requested hospitality typology. We design tasting rooms, caves, hospitality lawns, and member lounges across Santa Ynez, Sta. Rita Hills, and Happy Canyon. We understand harvest cycles, club-member programming, and the climate coordination a serious cellar requires.

Spa & Wellness Retreat — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
04 · Sector

Spa & Wellness Retreat

Wet rooms, treatment suites, contrast therapy circuits, and relaxation lounges — engineered for durability and designed for sensory calm. Our residential wellness work translates directly: non-toxic materials, circadian lighting, and acoustic isolation delivered at commercial scale.

Spa suites · contrast therapy · movement studios · relaxation lounges
Private Club & Workplace — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
05 · Sector

Private Club & Workplace

Member clubs, creative studios, family offices, and private-practice workplaces. Hospitality-grade finishes with the operational requirements of a workplace — power, data, privacy, acoustic performance, and the kind of furniture that survives ten years of meetings.

Retail & Showroom — Cerro Studio hospitality sector
06 · Sector

Retail & Showroom

Flagship boutiques, design showrooms, and by-appointment ateliers. Fixture systems engineered for product rotation, lighting tuned for merchandising, and a shell that elevates the object without competing with it.

Engagements

Four ways to bring us in.

01

Full-Service Hospitality

Timeline
16 – 30 months
Investment
Design fee from $240k
Best for

Independent operators and owner-developers building their first flagship property.

Ground-up hotels, restaurants, tasting rooms, and spas. We lead interior design from brand brief through opening-day styling, coordinated with the architect, operator, and brand agency of record.

02

Concept & Brand Identity

Timeline
8 – 14 weeks
Investment
Fixed fee from $48k
Best for

Operators in early diligence — before architect selection and before broker negotiation.

A written and visual brand platform before the lease is signed. Name direction, tone, material palette, signature moves, and a pro-forma-aware design vision that a broker, architect, and operator can all read from.

03

Refresh & Reposition

Timeline
14 – 20 weeks
Investment
Fixed fee from $85k
Best for

Hotels, restaurants, and tasting rooms three to ten years past opening.

An operating property in need of a second act. We audit the guest experience, re-specify FF&E and tabletop, rework lighting and signage, and deliver a phased installation plan that respects revenue.

04

Operator Advisory

Timeline
Retained · quarterly
Investment
From $12k / quarter
Best for

Investor-operators and family offices running multiple properties.

For owners who have a designer of record but want a second voice on experience, materials, and operational quality. We visit, critique, and recommend — at a cadence and candor level an owner rarely gets in-house.

What we bring

The difference between a designer
and a design director.

Most hospitality designers deliver a mood board and a furniture package. We deliver the whole operating environment — materials that survive, lighting that performs, service choreography that works, and a brand that reads at every touchpoint from the doormat to the cocktail napkin.

01
Operator-fluent programming — BOH flow, service lines, and staff circulation
02
Durability & performance specifications engineered for commercial use cycles
03
FF&E procurement at scale, receiving, inspection, and phased installation
04
Acoustic modeling and material specification for restaurants, bars, and public rooms
05
Lighting design tuned to service periods — circadian, merchandising, and theatrical
06
Tabletop, textile, and uniform programs specified with the brand platform
07
ADA, CBC, and health-department coordination across Santa Barbara & Ventura
08
Pre-opening styling, photography direction, and staff training artifacts
09
Brand continuity across multiple units and seasonal refresh programs
10
Post-opening care — quarterly walk-throughs and a single-point-of-contact refresh contract
Cerro Studio did something remarkable with our vineyard property — they designed a tasting room and residence that feel like one unified world. Guests can’t tell where the home ends and the hospitality begins.

A commercial brief

Opening something? Let’s talk early.

Our best hospitality work begins before the lease is signed — when the brand, the floor plan, and the operating model can still be shaped together. Reach out with whatever you have.
